Denver is entering a new era of waste reduction with the state's ban on plastic bags. As of June 1, 2024, retail stores in Denver are no longer able to offer plastic carryout bags to customers at checkout. Plastic bags are often used only once before being thrown away or stored, never to be used again.
A great way to get rid of single-use plastic bags is to swap them for a reusable bag. Plastic Bag Swaps will be hosted across Denver. Denverites can exchange their plastic bags and film for a free reusable bag. At these events, the community can also learn about:
Responsible recycling
Reducing waste
Cool reusable products
All plastic collected at these events will be sent to Trex and given new life as outdoor furniture. Repurposing plastic bags can improve air quality, reduce waste and help make Denver a cleaner city. What kind of plastic bags should you bring?
