CCD Awarded First Generation Designation by CDHE

Dear CCD Community,

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you. The Community College of Denver has been recognized as a First Generation-Serving Institution by the Colorado Department of Higher Education! This designation reflects our ongoing commitment to providing support, resources, and opportunities for our first-generation students, ensuring that CCD remains a place where all students can thrive.

The timing of this designation couldn’t be better. Just yesterday, we gathered for our annual First Generation Celebration, where we honored the courage, resilience, and determination of students who belong to the first generation in their families to pursue a college education. It was a powerful day filled with shared stories, laughter, and an outpouring of pride—a true reflection of what this designation stands for.

This achievement would not be possible without the dedication of our remarkable faculty, instructors, and staff. Every day, you create a supportive and empowering environment where students feel seen, valued, and equipped to succeed. Your passion and commitment transform our campus into a place of possibility and growth, not only for first-generation students but for everyone at CCD.

Thank you for making CCD a community that embraces, celebrates, and supports all students. I am deeply grateful for the work each of you does and look forward to the many ways we will continue to empower our first-generation students in the years to come.

With gratitude,

Dr. Marielena DeSanctis

President, Community College of Denver
