ACE Scholars Attend National S-STEM Meeting

This fall CCD students Sebastian Chavez-Ortega and Skylar Nicholls attended the National Science Foundation S-STEM Scholars Meeting in Washington D.C. The S-STEM Scholars Meeting brought together 1,000 student scholars from across the country to build community with fellow scholars and professional networks of STEM leaders; connect with prospective employers and graduate programs; learn about STEM career pathways, internship, and educational opportunities; engage in professional development activities; and strengthen their sense of belonging in STEM.

Sebastian and Skylar are in the ACE scholarship program at CCD which is supported by an NSF S-STEM grant. The CCD ACE program is for STEM majors, and students in the program are assisted with doing independent research and finding internships. Sebastian and Skylar were invited to attend the conference based on their outstanding work as ACE scholars. Sebastian also presented a poster about his research of avian diversity at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. Skylar and Sebastian had a great time meeting with hundreds of S-STEM students from across the country and receiving great professional development.
